The Project: Playing with you Closet

This is a little game, that will help you become more acquainted with your wardrobe. Split your clothes in half, tops on one side and bototms on the other. Close your eyes and pick the first thing you touch from each side. Open your eyes. Now, use your accessories: belts, scarves, headbands, hats, jewelry and shoes to make the two pieces work. You might end up with an orange floral maxi skirt and a brown sweater, but you'd be surprised how this little exercise can inspire you to make the most out of your wardrobe!

The Project: Eliminating the Tee's

I have an entire drawer dedicated to T-SHIRTS. That's it, just shirts. From sailing races, school events, places I've traveled to, colleges I like, concerts I've seen, I've got it all. The thing is, only a few end up being worn, yet I still hold onto them for their sentimental value. So here's the plan, its more on the crafty side so stick with me here.

Make a blanket, like a quilt, out of your t-shirts. Cut a 5'x5' square (or however big you want) from your shirts, then sew them together onto a a fleece blanket, or cotton blanket. You can even do the blanket double sided if you have enough shirts!

The Project: Mastering Your Closet

Mastering Your Closet:
I have found that the easiest way to get the most out of your wardrobe, is to master your closet. I thought this would be the best place to start...

Go through your closet. Maybe it is a mess, maybe its pristine, but you need to organize the entire thing, and you need a few hours to do it.
As you take your clothes out of your closet, ask yourself, "Do I wear this?" "Do I need this?" "Do I love this?" Those questions will help you form three piles: yes, no, and maybe.

Here comes the fun part: invite your friends over, model your Maybe pile and they will help you decide if it will go into the Yes or No pile. Then, with the No pile, donate the clothes or give them to your friends.

Now, with the Yes pile, it will go back into your closet, but you need to first decide if you even know how to wear the pieces. I suggest taking a picture of each piece on your body, it's tedious, I understand, but then create a photo album that you can easily slide pictures in and out of. By seeing each piece on your body, you will know how it looks, and it will help you see what it will look good with. After you create the flip book, keep it by your closet.

Now its time to organize the beast... you can do this by color, style, occasion, season, or whatever will work the best for you. I split my closet in half: dresses and everything else. The Everything Else is then in half: tops on one side, bottoms on the other. The fanciest pieces, like blouses and skirts go on the end and moving towards the middle are the most worn pieces arranged by color.

Finally! The closet has been mastered, and you can enjoy your clothes, and more easily find another way to wear them!
