Forever and Ever
If you could only wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? It would have to reflect your personality and your lifestyle. It would say where you're going and where you want to go. For me, it would be a white button down, a navy blazer, khaki pants, and red shoes. Now as the seasons and years go on, the shoes might change from Toms, to stilettos, to Hunter boots, to Tod's. The khakis might go from floods, to skinny pants to trousers. And the blazer might have to be taken in and out a few times. But, I think that overall, it is an outfit that can fit almost every occasion short of a gala event. So its your turn-will it Your prom dress, your wedding dress, your favorite cutoff shorts, or your vintage cowgirl boots?

Look out
After my week hiatus of college visits and my sailing season starting up, I realized that there are some definite updates I need to mention for the latest and greatest styles that I have observed in Chicago, New York, and Rhode Island. In the past week I have been in three different states and in and out of dozens of stores, here's what to look out for: colored lace, sleeveless blazers, unique collars, jumpsuits, tuxedo pants, envelope clutches, structured satchels, ankle strap heels, pastels, and vibrant color combos. With spring blooming, vacations to tropical destinations, and summer sneaking right behind it, keep that list in mind. Check out the Style Guide for how to wear each item.

Love at First Sight
That moment when you put on a dress in the dressing room, and your eyes sparkle, and you can't help but smile. When that dress that you never thought you would love, turns out to be the perfect one. That was my experience with my prom dress. I wanted something that no one else would wear, something unique and special and beautiful. Something that would flatter my body but also something that I could wear again. So after about 20 dresses, I saw a sparkly number hanging on the rack and grabbed it just for fun. I pulled it on and stepped out of the dressing room and saw my reflection in the mirror How could this dress, that I wasn't planning on being the one, make me feel so amazing?
The picture online would have never promoted me to pick it, the sparkles were something I would have avoided, and the fuller skirt (not ballgown) was not my original plan, but the strapless sweet heart neckline, the turned up sequins that would catch the attention of everyone in the room, and the cascading aqua color was breathtaking. This was it, whether I liked it or not. It was love.

Scarf it Down
My most ravenous obsession would have to be scarves. When its cold, put on a scarf. When I need color, put on a different scarf. When i need to be fancier, put on another scarf. Pretty much, they're awesome. So lately I've been scarfing down on scarves and improving my collection. Winter has warm wool and soft cashmere wraps while summer has the light, sheer and colorful, and then there is everything in between.
My scarf suggestion? Cover all your categories: color, size, and occasion. My collection includes blue and white stripes, plain black, metallic green, pink and green, blue and black, solid gold, gold and white, gold and purple, and sizes that go from "could be a blanket" to "could use as a head band."
With the warmer moths approaching, I am looking for a lacey white, a coral, and patterned yellow.

what if...
What if you never wore the same thing the same way? It would be quite a challenge, especially if your wardrobe is on the smaller side. But, it would also force yourself to become creative and look at your closet in a broader perspective. How can you wear your favorite top differently today? Turn it inside out, layer a collared shirt with it, tuck it in, blouse it over, do something different! Tomorrow when you get dressed, and you grab your typical pants with your go to blouse, take a second to find another way to wear it, you might be surprised with the outcome.

Shoe Epiphany
As I stared blankly at my closet full of shoes, I saw a mass of brown, black, beige, and gold with pops of red and purple. Pondering what purchase would be most advantageous for my shoe collection, I turned to my sister and said, "I need to expand my shoe vocabulary." I don't know where that phrase came from but I'm in love with it. So, what to do about it---shop for the season, and for my wardrobe.
Spring is fast approaching! That means a whole new variety of patterned wedges and petite flats and colored sandals. Attempting to Master my Closet, I have made a list of a few Must Have's for the approaching season to "expand my shoe vocabulary:" espadrille wedges with a bright pattern, white flats, black jeweled sandals, and a new pair of statement heels. Only a few more weeks of winter and the beloved boots, and then off to the sunshine of Spring and sandals. Happy Shoe Shopping!

Introduction
Fashion is what the retailers are selling, but Style is how to make it work.
That's my motto. As a 17 year old fashion fanatic, hoping to make my mark in the world of style, I decided to start a blog about making your fashionable pieces stylish.
Bear with me as I start to figure out the blogging thing, but my goal is to have emails sent to me with a picture of an article of clothing that my readers need help with-to wear it in another season, to make it work for a certain occasion, or just give an idea about another way to wear it.
